Christmas Fundraising Ideas - 101 raffle alternatives

October 24, 202428 min read

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to start planning your festive fundraising events. While raffles are a popular choice, there are so many other creative ways to raise funds and spread holiday cheer in your community. From fun games and competitions to DIY crafts and interactive challenges, these alternatives to traditional raffles will engage your supporters and make your fundraiser truly memorable. Whether you're working with a school, charity, or community group, these Christmas-themed activities will bring a festive spirit to your event while helping you achieve your fundraising goals.

1.       Family Secret Santa
A lovely idea to help children choose presents for their loved ones that is a complete surprise. Buy a selection of presents in bulk and wrap all of them but one sample of each. Children then view (secretly) the selection of presents and choose one for their family member. They are then given that present already wrapped with a present label on for them to write their names. They can choose as many as they want to buy for multiple family members. Charge around £2-3 per present and make sure each one is worth less than this so you can still make a profit.

2.      Make Reindeer Food
Create little pouches of "reindeer food" (usually oats mixed with edible glitter or sprinkles) for kids to sprinkle outside on Christmas Eve. Not only is it a fun and magical activity for children, but it can also be sold as a festive fundraiser. You can add a short story explaining the tradition to make it even more special.

3.      Sell Homemade Christmas Gifts
Encourage local artisans or community members to create and sell homemade Christmas gifts, such as crafts, ornaments, or baked goods. This could take the form of an online marketplace or a physical stall at a Christmas fair. If you’re a school, get the pupils making the items. It's an excellent opportunity to raise funds while supporting local talent.

4.      Newly New Sale
Host a sale featuring gently used or "nearly new" items that people can purchase as Christmas gifts. This is a sustainable and affordable alternative to buying new, while also raising funds. Items could include clothing, toys, and home goods, making it a versatile option. Ask donors or parents to donate items to sell.

5.      Christmas Tombola
Instead of a traditional raffle, run a tombola where participants pay for a ticket and immediately win a prize if their number matches one of the pre-assigned winning numbers. Offer a mix of fun and festive prizes, such as small toys, treats, or decorations all Christmas themed.

6.      Hook a Gift Bag
Set up a game where participants pay to try and "hook" a gift bag using a fishing pole or a hook. Each bag contains a surprise gift, ranging from small treats to larger prizes. This adds an element of fun and surprise to the fundraiser, encouraging repeat plays.

7.      Win a Mug Raffle
Instead of a standard raffle, offer personalised or festive mugs as prizes. Each participant buys a ticket to be in with a chance of winning a special Christmas-themed mug, filled with small goodies like hot chocolate mix, candy canes, or even a mini plant.

8.      Buy Craft Decoration Pack
Offer pre-packaged Christmas craft kits for families to buy and decorate at home. These kits can include materials to make ornaments, garlands, or other holiday decorations. It's a great way to encourage creativity while raising funds, and families can enjoy a fun activity together.
